History of Catholic Education Schools In The Catholic Archdiocese Of Accra
Catholic Education in the Accra Archdioceses of Greater Accra Region commenced in 1931 and the Unit’s management jurisdiction extended to the Volta and Eastern Regions, later, the two regions became autonomous.
The Unit started with just a school – Sacred Heart Mission Basic School at Derby Avenue. Rev. Fr. Rothoff was the Local Manager and Mr. Dowuona was the sole teacher for a school of fifteen (15) Boys and six (6) Girls. St. Joseph’s R/C school and Korle Gonno R/C Boys School were later on established in (1934) and (1945) respectively.
Currently the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra has established several public basic schools in fifteen (15) out of sixteen (16) Districts of Greater Accra Region.
